Whether they are called Prayer Shawls, Comfort Shawls, Peace Shawls, or Mantles, etc., the shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. The intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way. Some recipients have continued the kindness by making a shawl and passing it onto someone in need. Thus, the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of a sheltering, mothering God.
The Community of Love Prayer Shawl Ministry meets the 4th Monday of each month at Luther House, #4 Activity Room, 122 Jenners Pond Road, West Grove, PA from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Members of Community of Love join with residents of Luther House for fellowship, as they crochet or knit prayer shawls, lap robes, and pocket prayer shawls. Light refreshments are served. The Prayer shawls and lap robes are then distributed through Community of Love.
For information on how to join this group or to request a prayer shawl for yourself or to be given to someon else, please call the church office at (610) 998-0282.
Twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, volunteers from Community of Love meet on a Saturday morning to walk a two-mile stretch of Route 472 south of Oxford and clear it of trash and debris.
When they are finished with otheir refreshing morning walk, the volunteers generally meet for a late morning br;uch and fellowship at one of Oxfords enjoyable restaurants.
